The Policing, Security and Community Safety Act 2024, which I commenced on Wednesday 2 April 2025, provides for the establishment of Local Community Safety Partnerships (LCSP) within each local authority area.
Each Local Community Safety Partnership will be supported by two full-time, permanent staff at local authority administrative Grades IV and VII. Funding for these staff is provided by the Department of Justice and they will be employed by the relevant local authority.
A total of 36 Partnerships will be rolled out on commencement of the regulations, based in each local authority administrative area. This includes one in each of the Dublin City Council administrative areas, five in total; and two in Fingal; Fingal North, and Fingal West.
€9.5 million was allocated in Budget 2025 to support community safety. This funding is broken down as follows:
- €5.5 million has been allocated to establish Local Community Safety Partnerships nationwide and to establish a National Office for Community Safety.
- €4 million has been allocated to the Community Safety Fund which reinvests proceeds of crime funds returned to the Exchequer by the Criminal Assets Bureau (CAB) back into communities, in order to fund innovative local projects aimed at building stronger, safer communities.
