The Office of the Government CIO, a division within my Department, provides internet access through the Government Networks shared service to a wide range of public service bodies. The table below lists the name of the current service providers along with the total contract value. Magnet was the successful bidder in a recent public procurement exercise and the contract to Viatel will be ceased shortly as a result.

Company Total Contract Value
Magnet Plus €505,000
Virgin Media €430,000
Viatel €100,150
Additionally, my Department is a member of INEX which is an internet peering point for Ireland and allows for direct peering with a number of internet service providers. The cost for INEX membership is in the region of €30,000 per year.

My Department also offers a guest wifi service which allows public service bodies offer free wifi to members of the public. The contract for this service is with Vodafone and the total contract value is €609,136.
