As Minister of State for International & Road Transport, Logistics, Rail & Ports, I have responsibility for the legislation underpinning the Disabled Parking Permit Scheme.
Disabled parking permits are available to people living in Ireland whose mobility is severely restricted, whether they are drivers or passengers, and also to those who are registered blind. An application for a permit incurs a €35 fee.
Figures for the total number of permits issued from 2018 to 2022 are in the table below. Figures for 2023 and 2024 are not yet available.
Number of Permits Issued Annually 2018-2022
Year | 2018 | 2019 | 2020 | 2021 | 2022 |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
Total | 53,833 | 55,126 | 53,489 | 54,304 | 58,920 |
The Scheme is operated on behalf of the Department of Transport by the Irish Wheelchair Association and the Disabled Drivers Association of Ireland. As neither body is an agency of the Department, the Department does not hold the financial information requested and the Deputy may wish to contact them directly on this matter.
