A National Rare Disease Steering Group was established in December 2023. They were tasked with developing a new National Rare Disease Strategy for Ireland. The Steering Group have recently completed their work and the Strategy has been approved by the Chief Medical Officer. It is currently under my consideration for approval. The Steering Group has given consideration to a wide variety of areas. This includes, but is not limited to, screening, diagnostics and genetic testing. I understand that the Steering Group have provided recommendations on these areas in line with Programme for Government commitments.
