Howth Fishery Harbour Centre is one of the six designated Fishery Harbour Centres (FHCs) which are owned, managed and maintained by my Department under Statute.

Howth is a working fishery harbour. A phased programme for infrastructural development to support the fishing industry has been progressed there over many years, which has seen €25.4 million of capital investment between 2015 and 2024.

In March last, Minister of State Timmy Dooley and I announced an allocation of €2.18 million for capital works at Howth under the 2025 Fishery Harbour and Coastal Infrastructure Development Programme, including funding to install accessible pedestrian walkways and to resurface the protected granite at the West Pier roundhead and North West Jetty protected structure.

Between 2019 and 2023, re-surfacing works were completed on the West Pier, and the walled car park adjacent to the West Pier underwent an upgrade of drainage system during which new asphalt surfacing was applied. All car parking spaces were line marked during this time, with additional disabled access spaces provided. These parking spaces are currently in good condition.

The condition and maintenance of all works areas, carriageways and the layout and suitability of the parking spaces within the FHC, including the West Pier, are monitored and assessed on an ongoing basis as part of overall harbour management.
