263. To ask the Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport the measures in place to ensure adequate Irish language signage in all of the country’s airports (detail supplied); if there is a policy in place; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [25150/25]

I thank the Deputy for his interest in this matter.
The Deputy will be aware that Statutory Instrument No. 391/2008 - Official Languages Act 2003 (Section 9) Regulations 2008 provides that all signage placed by a public body, or on its behalf, must be in Irish or bilingual in accordance with the Regulations.
With regard to Irish airports, the current legislation applies to Dublin, Cork and Shannon State owned airports only.
Kerry Airport is owned by Kerry Airport plc. Given this, the use of Irish language on signage is an operational matter for the airport company and not a matter in which my Department has a role.
