892. To ask the Minister for Health if she will investigate the admission policies and practices at an organisation (details supplied) following a reported incident in which a long-awaited residential admission was withdrawn on the day of arrival due to behavioural concerns, despite the client meeting all prior medical and governance requirements; if there is any oversight or appeals process available for families or service users in such cases, especially when there are dual-diagnosis and neurocognitive vulnerabilities involved; and if she will make a statement on the matter. It is suggested that the complainant consider contacting the Patient Advocacy Service (PAS). PAS is an independent service commissioned by the Department of Health to support patients and their families who are considering making a complaint regarding the care they have received in certain health and social care services.
PAS may be in a position to signpost the complainant to additional supports in order to have their specific concerns addressed. Further information is available on their website: www.patientadvocacyservice.ie, phone: 0818 293 003 or email: info@patientadvocacyservice.ie
Alternatively, the complainant may wish to contact the service directly and request assistance to make a specific complaint regarding their service in line with their complaints policy and procedures.
As this is a service matter, I have asked the Health Service Executive to respond to the deputy directly, as soon as possible.
