Carer's allowance (CA) is a means-tested social assistance payment made to a person who is habitually resident in the State and who is providing full-time care and attention to a child or an adult who has such a disability that, as a result, they require that level of care.
I can confirm that the person concerned has been in receipt of CA since 14 September 2017.
On 20 January 2025, the person concerned notified my Department that they would be outside the state from 15 January 2025, with an anticipated return date of 6 March 2025.
CA may be paid for up to 3 weeks if the recipient is abroad on a respite break. As a result, the person was notified that their CA would stop on 5 February 2025. The person was also notified in writing on 4 February 2025 that in order to reinstate their payment, they should forward their travel itinerary (e.g. outward / inward boarding passes) to my Department as soon as they returned to Ireland.
A reminder letter issued to the person concerned on 14 May 2025.
Once the information requested has been received, payment will be reinstated without delay.
I hope this clarifies the position for the Deputy.
