There are over 30 agencies that support the work of my Department across the Justice Sector, 12 of which have been established in the last decade.
Some recent examples include: Cuan, the Domestic, Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (DSGBV) Agency, established in 2024 which has a mandate of working towards achieving a society with zero tolerance for any form of DSGBV or the attitudes which underpin it, and ensuring victims have access to the full range of supports and services they need. The new statutory Gambling Regulatory Authority of Ireland was established in February this year following the passage of the necessary legislation last year to regulate the gambling industry in Ireland.
On April 2, I commenced the Policing, Security and Community Safety Act 2024 which provides an extensive new framework for policing and community safety aimed at improving the performance and accountability of An Garda Síochána and ultimately supports their vital work to keep Ireland safe.
The Act reshapes the oversight and complaints landscape in a much more coherent way including:
- a new Policing and Community Safety Authority (replacing both the existing Policing Authority and Garda Síochána Inspectorate),
- the restructuring of GSOC renamed Fiosrú – the Office of the Police Ombudsman,
- a new Office of the Independent Examiner of Security Legislation; and
- a new National Office for Community Safety.
The Revised Estimates Volumes (REV) for the Public Service gives information on budgetary provisions for these agencies. Information for 2025 can be found at the following link: www.gov.ie/en/department-of-public-expenditure-ndp-delivery-and-reform/collections/the-revised-estimates-volumes-for-the-public-service/#2025
The appendix at the following link provides information on funding for each agency from Establishment up to 2024 and the Estimate figure for 2025.
