266. To ask the Tánaiste and Minister for Justice and Equality if service training days can be considered towards days' service with respect to an individual’s pension eligibility (details supplied); if recourse is available to such an individual who falls short of the five years of service requirement; and if he will make a statement on the matter. Matters relating to the terms & conditions of the relevant Superannuation Scheme, and establishing entitlement or otherwise to a Civil Service (which includes Prison Officers) pension are a matter for the Minister for Public Expenditure, NDP & Reform (DPENDR).

I am advised that, during the period to which the Deputy refers, a total of 5 years of service was required under the Scheme in order to establish an entitlement to a pension. Persons with less than 5 years’ service rendered on departure from the Prison Service were entitled to apply for a refund of their superannuation contributions.
