Storm Éowyn was an unprecedented event which brought many challenges to communities. The importance of good community facilities and infrastructure was very clear in the aftermath of the storm, and the value of the investments made in recent years was fully evident.

My Department has a comprehensive range of capital investment schemes in place which local authorities and communities can utilise to ensure continued investment that will enhance facilities in rural communities and improve the resilience of communities to any similar events in the future.

These schemes include:

  • The Outdoor Recreation Infrastructure Scheme (ORIS)
  • LEADER
  • The Community Centre Investment Fund (CCIF)
  • Community Recognition Fund (CRF)
  • The Local Enhancement Programme (LEP)
  • The Rural Regeneration Fund (RRDF)
  • CLÁR
Some of these schemes may provide a suitable funding opportunity. Indeed, in recent years my Department has provided funding to the organisation in question under the Community Centre Investment Fund and Community Recognition Fund.

I encourage all organisations to check my department’s website, www.gov.ie/drcd, and to engage with their Local Community Development Committees, Local Development Companies and Public Participation Networks, to ensure they are aware of funding opportunities as they become available. I would also note other Departments or agencies may operate schemes of relevance to this particular organisation.
