I propose to take Questions Nos. 442 and 443 together.
Section 56A(1) of the Road Traffic Act obliges insurers and brokers to collect a driver number when issuing or renewing a policy of motor insurance. This came into effect on 31 March 2025. It is therefore an offence for any insurance provider or broker to issue a motor insurance policy from 31 March, where the driver number has not been supplied. All driver numbers collected by insurers and brokers must be validated against the Department's NVDF database before being considered a valid driver number. My Department does not record information relating to failed driver number validations resulting from insurer look-ups.
