The Department has a range of sources it can draw upon for scientific expertise, knowledge and evidence, including a number of technical and scientific units in the Department, Geological Survey Ireland (GSI) (which is a Division of the Department), several agencies under the Department’s aegis, (including the Environmental Protection Agency and the Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland), and agencies under the aegis of other government departments (e.g. Teagasc). Met Eireann, the national meteorological service, with its mandate to provide comprehensive weather information and related services also provides advice as appropriate.

In addition, the Department has access to scientific expertise from external bodies, including a number of Higher Education Institutions, through the Climate Action Modelling Group (CAMG) which provides technical research and modelling support to the Department in the development and management of national climate and energy policy.
