My Department prepares expenditure profiles following the confirmation of annual budgets in the Revised Estimates, and submits these to the Department of Public Expenditure, NDP Delivery and Reform (DPENDR) in January of each year. Expenditure relative to profile is reported to DPENDR at the end of each month. Details of expenditure relative to these profiles are published monthly in the Fiscal Monitor, which is available at the following link www.gov.ie/en/department-of-finance/policy-information/the-fiscal-monitor/.
While every effort is made to accurately profile expenditure each month, variances do occur. This usually relates either to the timing of claims by external bodies, or changes in project timelines as the year progresses. Where variances are likely to give rise to savings at year end my Department proactively seeks to reallocate funds to areas of higher demand. The Department has robust processes in place to effectively monitor and manage expenditure, and this has ensured that use of allocated funding is maximised each year, ensuring the provision of vital supports to rural areas and communities right across the country.
