1267. To ask the Minister for Education and Skills if consideration has been given to offering teaching or research posts in Ireland to academics in the US who have experienced or are at risk of facing political discrimination by the Trump Administration; and if he will make a statement on the matter. My Department has been working with Taighde Éireann - Research Ireland to establish a programme to bring global research talent to Ireland. At a time when uncertainty looms for many researchers around the world, Ireland offers stability, opportunity, excellence and a gateway to the EU. I am pleased to report that I have obtained Government approval to initiate such a programme.

The initiative will fund research on a number of thematic areas reflecting key economic and societal priorities such as renewable energy, food security and sustainability, AI and Semiconductors, although this is not an exhaustive list. I hope to be in a position to provide fuller details on the operation of this scheme in the coming weeks.
