I can advise the Deputy that any visa required national that wishes to enter the State and remain for up to 90 days must have a Type C Short Stay Visa.

The central concern in deciding on visa applications, as with all visa services worldwide, is to strike an appropriate balance between protecting the country's vital national interests by maintaining an effective immigration regime while at the same time facilitating travel for those who meet the criteria.

In 2024, approximately 201,000 visa applications, of all types, were received by the Visa Division of my Department. This reflects an increase of 21%, compared to 2023, with over 35,000 additional applications received. My Department's Visa Division is working to meet the increased level of demand and the number of decisions issued in 2024 increased by 18%.

The below table shows the number of Type C Short Stay Visas received, granted and refused for the period 01 January 2020, up to 10 May 2025.

Year Received Granted Refused
2020 12315 9665 2426
2021 11960 8629 1116
2022 52696 42664 8192
2023 73998 60138 10549
2024 94846 74081 15107
2025 (up to 10 May) 40878 26004 5562
