My Department provides accommodation and other basic supports to people applying for international protection in Ireland as required under EU and Irish law.
Ireland currently provides accommodation for almost 33,000 people; over 9,000 of whom are children with their families. There are 325 accommodation centres across the country, based in every county.
My Department does not hold contracts with security providers who provide security services at IPAS accommodation centres, rather such costs are incorporated into the overall contract for accommodation at each centre.
Security arrangements at IP centres are the responsibility of the centre manager and it is a commercial decision for the provider as to which security company they choose to contract in meeting this obligation.
Detailed contractual arrangements for IPAS centres are confidential and commercially sensitive, however quarterly reports on all payments over €20,000 are available online at www.gov.ie/en/collection/dfdadb-department-of-children-and-youth-affairs-purchase-orders-for-20000-o/.
