Carer's allowance (CA) is a means-tested social assistance payment made to a person who is habitually resident in the State and who is providing full-time care and attention to a child or an adult who has such a disability that as a result they require that level of care.
When a person in receipt of CA has a qualified child who is 18 years of age or over in full-time day education, a child support payment may be payable. Such an increase is payable until the child reaches 22 years of age or up to the end of the academic year in which the child reaches 22.
The qualified child of the person concerned turned 18 years of age on 7 April 2025. On 6 May 2025, the person concerned submitted confirmation that their qualified child was still attending full-time day education. Accordingly, an increase for a Child Support payment was awarded to the person concerned on 7 May 2025.
Arrears for the period 10 April 2025 to 7 May 2025 will issue to their nominated bank account.
The person concerned was notified of this decision in writing on 7 May 2025.
I hope this clarifies the position for the Deputy.
