794. To ask the Minister for Employment Affairs and Social Protection the policy for listing party 1 and party 2 on marriage certificate documentation; if this policy differs between same-sex and heterosexual couples; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [23461/25]

Marriage notification requires that the data of both parties is entered on the Civil Registration Computer System (CRCS). In marriages of persons of the opposite sex the male party was traditionally listed first and the female party listed second. Marriage data is shared by my Department with CSO for the compilation of Vital Statistics, and listing the parties in this order was favoured by CSO from a data analysis perspective.
The CSO has agreed to revise its process to ensure the parties can be listed in the order of the couples choosing. The General Register Office will work with CSO on implementing this process and roll it out across the Civil Registration Service as soon as is feasible while ensuring that the proposed changes to the CSO production process have been fully tested.
