572. To ask the Minister for Education and Skills if her Department will review the rules surrounding the retention of acting-up allowances for teachers who have served in acting deputy principal roles for more than five years, particularly in cases where the teacher covered for a colleague on a career break; if she will address the apparent discrepancy in treatment compared to those covering colleagues on maternity or secondment leave; if she will ensure that such teachers are not penalised in terms of their entitlement to retain the allowance on a personal basis; and if she will make a statement on the matter. I wish to advise that the Deputy that the current position is set out in Circulars 0044/2019 (primary) and 42/00 (post primary). The person must have held the acting post for a period in excess of five consecutive years to be eligible to retain the acting-up allowance on a personal basis.

The post primary recruitment circulars are currently being reviewed in consultation with the relevant Education Partners (School Management Bodies and Teacher Unions) and are at an advanced stage.
