I propose to take Questions Nos. 555 and 573 together.
I wish to refer the Deputy to section 2.1 of Post Primary Circular 42/00, which advises the following:
“2.1 With effect from 1st May 1999, where an acting Principal, acting Deputy Principal, acting Assistant Principal or acting Special Duties Teacher post is held for a period in excess of 5 consecutive years, the acting-up allowance may be retained on a personal basis subject to the discharge of appropriate duties. An acting appointment for a 5 year career break is excluded”.
The teacher in question has not acted for a period in excess of 5 consecutive years and therefore does not meet the criteria to retain the Deputy Principal allowance on a personal basis.
I trust this clarifies the matter for the Deputy.
