The Public Sector Climate Action Mandate, derived from the Climate Action Plan requires that public bodies produce a Climate Action Roadmap annually to report on progress towards achieving their 2030 Public Sector greenhouse gas (GHG) emission reduction and energy efficiency improvement (EE) target.
My Department is committed to realising the ambitious targets for emissions reduction by 2030. The Roadmap sets out how we are reducing emissions and our commitment to meeting our decarbonisation and sustainability targets. My Department’s most recent Climate Action Roadmap published in 2024? reaffirms my Department's commitment to reducing emissions and meeting our decarbonisation and sustainability targets.
The most recent data shows the my the Department has delivered 64.7% in energy savings since the baseline year (2006-2008) more than the initial 33% target set for public bodies. In terms of our target of reducing GHG emissions by 51% in 2030, data for 2023 performance is over 30% better than the 2030 target. At corporate level, we have a long standing internal green team which over the past four years has facilitated the delivery of many significant decarbonisation initiatives, several in collaboration with partners in the Office of Public Works (OPW) and the Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland (SEAI).
Following on from the recent publication of the 2025 Public Sector Climate Action Mandate my Department is currently developing our 2025 Climate Action Roadmap.
