The Lime Avenue at Castletown House, Celbridge is a shared space that operates as a pedestrian priority route.

The Office of Public Works operates a policy of pedestrian priority in all shared spaces at heritage sites in its remit across the country. This allows for service vehicles, both OPW and contractor vehicles, to access all parts of the sites and parklands to undertake the necessary work required to manage and operate heritage sites while also ensuring the safety of all.

The Office of Public Works is committed to a policy of reunification of the historic demesne lands surrounding Castletown House and Estate. This is long-standing policy and over the last thirty years, the OPW has reunited 220 acres of the original demesne lands at Castletown.

In this context, any future acquisition or lease arrangements would have to be undertaken in compliance with the Public Spending Code.

The Office of Public Works (OPW) is engaging with Kildare Innovation Campus (KIC) in respect of a proposed car parking facility for visitors to Castletown House which would be located on KIC lands that adjoin the historic demesne. As the Deputy will be aware this is a complex issue and the OPW is working with a range of stakeholders to examine the issues relating to this proposal.

The OPW is currently working on finalising a planning application for this development and is engaging with the various stakeholders at the KIC campus.
