To ask the Minister for Employment Affairs and Social Protection if the training support grant will allow for the funding of driving lessons beyond the initial 12 in order to give individuals the best opportunity to pass the driving test; and if he will make a statement on the matter. The Training Support Grant is designed to support quick access to short-term training where the training is not delivered by a state provider. The grant can be provided where an immediate skills gap is identified that represents an obstacle to taking up a job offer or accessing other opportunities.
A maximum contribution of €250 can be approved and paid for Essential Driver Training. This is a structured training programme consisting of 12 driving sessions teaching fundamental driving skills to learner car drivers. There are no plans to further extend this.
