276. To ask the Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport the number of cars and percentage of the national vehicle fleet powered by fossil fuels in 2024 and to date in 2025; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [23151/25]

The statistics requested by the Deputy are publicly available at the below links for self-service at any time and updated monthly.

For convenience they are also summarised below. The data reflect the number of private vehicles with current motor tax. Hybrid vehicles have the option to use fossil fuel, and the only vehicles not considered to be powered by fossil fuels are fully electric vehicles.

On 31 December 2024 there were 2,356,615 private vehicles representing 96.87% of the national fleet powered by fossil fuels.

On 31 March 2025 there were 2,391,597 private vehicles representing 96.60% of the national fleet powered by fossil fuels.
