There are three bodies under the aegis of my Department; the Army Pensions Board, the Ombudsman for the Defence Forces and the External Oversight Body of the Defence Forces (EOB), which was placed on a statutory basis on 1 December 2024. The civil service support staff for those bodies are included in the data for the Department.

In addition to Civil Servants, my Department also employs a number of civilian State Industrial Employees in support of the Defence Forces at various military installations. The grades employed are spread across a wide spectrum and include craft workers (Electricians, Carpenters, Plumbers, Fitters, Welders etc.), services (General Operatives), administrative (Clerks, Storemen), healthcare professionals (Social Workers, Physiotherapists, Pharmacists, Psychiatrists & Psychologists) and other specialist grades (Archivists, Aircraft Inspector/Instructor, Technicians, Quantity Surveyors, Draughtsmen).

A total of fifty six employees, fifty two civil servants and four civilian employees (working in the Defence Forces) are currently employed in my Department on a salary above €100,000, the total value of the salaries is €7,124,372.

In relation to the Defence Forces, there are 227 Officers earning over €100k per annum, the total annual salary value for these Officers is €25,808,428.00.

The Department of Public Expenditure, NDP and Reform (DPENDPR) has overall responsibility for public service pay policy throughout the public sector and the rates applied in my Department are in line with those agreed centrally and with those being paid to equivalent grades in other Government Departments.
