There are 25 Craft Apprenticeship programmes offered across four families – Construction, Electrical, Engineering and Motor.

A craft apprenticeship lasts for a minimum of four years, during which time apprentices spend three different periods in off-the-job training.

The first off-the-job training phase, which is Phase 2 of 7 training phases in a Craft Apprenticeship, takes place in an Education and Training Board (ETB).

Phase 2 off-the-job training for the 25 Craft Apprenticeship programmes is delivered at various training centres and facilities across the country under the oversight of Ireland’s 16 ETBs.

There are also 52 Consortia-Led Apprenticeship programmes across 15 families – Agriculture & Arboriculture, Auctioneering & Property Services, BioPharmaChem, Construction, Electrical, Engineering, Financial Services, Hair, Healthcare, Hospitality & Food, ICT, Insurance, Logistics, Media, Recruitment, and Sales.

A consortia-led apprenticeship lasts between two and four years.

There are a number of models of on-the-job and off-the-job training, as well as different models of delivery.

Industry-led groups (consortia) work with education and training providers and other partners to oversee the development and roll-out of consortia-led apprenticeships.
