As Minister for Transport, I have responsibility for overall policy and exchequer funding in relation to the National Roads Programme. Under the Roads Acts 1993-2015 and in line with the National Development Plan (NDP), the planning, design and construction of individual national roads is a matter for Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII), in conjunction with the local authorities concerned. This is also subject to the Infrastructure Guidelines and the necessary statutory approvals. In this context, TII is best placed to advise you.

I can confirm that an allocation of €3,000,000 was made to the N2 Clontibret to the Border project in 2025. While it was not possible to allocate funding for the N2 Ardee to Castleblayney project this year, the delivery programme for the project will be kept under review for 2026 and considered in terms of the overall funding envelope available to TII.

Noting the above position, I have referred your question to TII for a direct reply. Please advise my private office if you do not receive a reply within 10 working days.

I can confirm that in 2025 an allocation of €80,000 was made to the N24 Waterford to Cahir project. While the N25 Waterford to Glenmore project did not receive funding for 2025 the delivery programme for the project will be kept under review for 2026 and considered in terms of the overall funding envelope available to TII. However, I am also pleased to confirm that there was significant funding allocated to minor works schemes on the N25 in Waterford, including almost €2.7 million allocated to a pavement scheme on the N25 between Carroll’s Cross and Ballyduff East.

Noting the above position, I have referred your question to TII for a direct reply updating you as to the latest status of the projects and works planned for the N24 and N25. Please advise my private office if you do not receive a reply within 10 working days.
