To ask the Minister for Finance the total value on an annual basis of banknotes replaced in the past ten years to date in 2025 by the Central Bank; if he will provide a breakdown, by denomination of note replaced and value; the number of applications for replacement of notes in excess of €150 and €750 and value of those applications over that time period; and the total amount on an annual basis over the same time period in which old punt notes and coins were replaced with euro currency. I am advised by the Central Bank that it exchanged a total value of £7.05m (€8.96) in Irish Punt banknotes and coins between 01/01/2015 and 25/04/2025.

  • < £150 in value (10,510 applications totalling £0.49m)
  • Between £150 and £749 (4,091 applications totalling £1.39m)
  • For £750 and above (1,737 applications totalling £5.17m)
