To ask the Minister for Education and Skills his views on the role of adult educator in Youthreach as outlined in his speech at the recent conference in Wexford (details supplied); if the adult educator grade proposed is to replace the established grade of Youthreach resource person, who have their pre-existing terms and conditions (CL12/03); and if he will make a statement on the matter. I thank the Deputy for this question. My Department recognises and appreciates the work and commitment of adult educators and Youthreach resource persons.

I would like to clarify that the new grade of adult educator will not replace the established grade of Youthreach resource person or affect their current terms and conditions set out in Circular 12/2003.

The pay scale for the new adult educator grade is aligned to the pay scale for a Youthreach resource person for pay and incremental purposes only.
