The Department of Social Protection receives EU Funding under the following EU programmes.

The current programme is the European Social Fund Plus Employment, Inclusion, Skills and Training Programme (ESF+EIST 2021-2027) which is a cross-Government programme managed by the Department of Further and Higher Education, Research Innovation and Science. The Department has four schemes within this programme which are co-funded by the EU and the Government of Ireland.

The previous programme was the European Social Fund Programme for Employability, Inclusion and Learning (ESF PEIL 2014-2020), also managed by the Department of Further and Higher Education, Research Innovation and Science. In 2022, PEIL was amended to programme Ireland’s tranche of REACT EU funding, resulting in the creation of a new priority within the programme to assist Member States with the cost of provision of supports to persons granted temporary protection fleeing Ukraine under the Temporary Protection Directive. The Department submitted a claim in June 2024 under the REACT element of the PEIL programme.

DSP was the lead partner in a project called Lone Parents Digital Activation which was co-financed by the European Programme for Employment and Social Innovation (EASI). The project has now completed but funding was received in 2024.

Details of schemes and their EU funding percentage are set out in the table below.
