Motor insurers are responsible for collecting driver numbers from commercial fleet owners on application or renewal of a vehicle insurance policy. As such the Motor Insurers' Bureau of Ireland may have the required statistics but my Department does not. I should note, as the Deputy is aware, the driver number provision only became a legal requirement from 31 March onwards and does not apply retrospectively to existing insurance policies taken out before that date.
