281. To ask the Minister for Communications, Climate Action and Environment his views on the lack of state oversight on the EN590 fuel quality measures entering the Island of Ireland; and if he will raise this issue with the European Commission to act on the absence of State oversight on fuel quality and the lack of mandated testing of compliances with all elements of EN590. The Fuel Quality Directive (Directive 98/70/EC as amended) sets the technical specifications on health and environmental grounds for fuels to be used with positive ignition and compression-ignition engines. My Department is responsible for overseeing the testing and sampling of fuels as required by that Directive but does not have responsibility for the implementation of the EN 590 fuel specification.
