The Ombudsman for Children is a statutorily independent in the performance of his functions. As such the Department has no role in the operations and decision making of his Office. The Department does work with the Office of the Ombudsman for Children's office in negotiating its budget and staffing levels with the Department of Public Expenditure NDP Delivery and Reform, in ensuring that its funding and expenditure are carried out in line with Government accounting rules and that its governance arrangements comply with the Code of Practice for the Governance of State Bodies.
