As the Deputy will be aware, the Liming Programme was launched in spring of 2023 to incentivise the use of lime, a natural soil conditioner which corrects soil acidity, makes nutrients more available for plant uptake, and improves overall soil health.
Administration checks carried out on the claim received from the person named, indicate that they did not meet the conditions as outlined in the Liming Programme.
One of the requirements of the measure was that lime must not be spread in a designated area. In this specific case the lands in question are listed on DAFM’s Land Parcel Identification System as being located in a Natura 2000 site, making them ineligible to participate in the programme.
My officials have been in contact with the individual concerned outlining the situation and the applicant is being made aware of his right to appeal this decision to the Agricultural Appeals office.
