In compliance with Section 47(4) of the Disability Act, my Department surveys all employees annually to establish the number of employees who have a disability.

The Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine has exceeded the minimum target for the employment of persons with disabilities in each of the last ten years (3% up to and including 2023 and 4.5% for 2024). It should be noted that disclosure by individuals of their disability status is voluntary, as is the disclosure of the nature of any disability disclosed.

Figures for the percentage of persons employed in my Department who declared a disability in the years 2015 to 2024 are in the table below:

Year %
2015 4.0
2016 4.3
2017 4.1
2018 3.8
2019 4.0
2020 3.7
2021 3.6
2022 4.2
2023 5.0
2024 7.1
For the Deputy's information, the National Disability Authority publishes on their website an annual report on monitoring compliance with Part 5 of the Disability Act 2005. The reports for the years 2006 to 2022 can be found at the following link: .
