I refer to Parliamentary Question No. 267 of 3 April 2025 where you sought:

To ask the Minister for Justice when the last competition was held for sworn Gardaí to apply to join the Garda band; and the number of Gardaí that have applied to join the band.

The Deputy will recall that the information could not be obtained in the time available, and I undertook to contact you again when the requested information was received from the Garda authorities.

The Garda Commissioner is responsible, by law, for the management and administration of An Garda Síochána, including all matters relating to the recruitment, training and appointment of its members. This responsibility extends to the Garda Band.

I have been advised by An Garda Síochána that the Garda Band advertised an Internal Expression of Interest in 2024. There were three applications, from two Garda members and one Garda staff.

The strength of the Garda Band is 24 members as of 31 March 2025.
