1547. To ask the Tánaiste and Minister for Justice and Equality the number of times persons under the age of 18 years have been subject to strip searches while in Garda custody in each of the past five years; the number of occasions where those searches were not carried out in the presence of an appropriate adult; and the number of occasions those strip searches were not carried out with the assistance of a doctor. There are a series of procedural safeguards in place with regard to the treatment in custody and questioning of children under the Criminal Justice Act 1984 (Treatment of Persons in Custody in Garda Síochána Stations) Regulations, 1987, and the Children Act 2001.

I am informed by the Garda authorities that the data requested is not captured in data fields as part of a record on PULSE and therefore it is not possible to extract the information requested by the Deputy.
