While all members of An Garda Síochána promote crime prevention and reduction, Crime Prevention Officers (CPOs) are specifically trained to carry out the role. CPOs encourage, promote, guide and advise on crime prevention to both the private and business community.
There is a Crime Prevention Officer attached to each Garda Division. There are currently 37 Crime Prevention Officers in the country, including one in each of the 6 divisions in the Dublin Metropolitan Region (DMR). These figures are correct as of 5 March 2025.
Information in relation to Crime Prevention Officer's is publicly available on the Garda.ie website and can be found at the following link: .

I am informed by the Garda authorities that the allocation of additional resources for specialist units within An Garda Síochána, including the Garda dog unit, is reviewed on a continual basis. The purchase and allocation of vehicles is made on the basis of identified operational demands and the availability of resources.
The table below has been provided to me by the Garda authorities and outlines the number of marked and unmarked Garda cars and vans attached to the Garda dog unit as of 28 February 2025, the latest date for when figures are available. Information supplied is operational and subject to change.
