The Department of Social Protection does not directly rent any properties. All of the properties occupied by my department are owned or leased by the Office of Public Works (OPW), with the exception of the department's headquarters, Áras Mhic Dhiarmada, Store Street, Dublin 1, which is held by the Minister on behalf of the Social Insurance Fund.

It is not possible to give the Deputy a comprehensive breakdown of all the properties rented or leased by the OPW and the tenancy arrangements associated with them. The OPW submits a charge for rent to my department on a quarterly basis. This request seeks the total amount due across the department's portfolio and is not broken down on an office by office basis.

There follows is a breakdown of the rent and service charge amounts recouped by the OPW from my department for the years 2015 to 2025 YTD (*23rd April 2025).

Year Amount paid (€ million)
2015 7.1
2016 8.1
2017 7.2
2018 7.1
2019 7.3
2020 8.0
2021 7.9
2022 8.2
2023 5.4
2024 5.8
2025 YTD 1.1
