Carer's Benefit is a payment made to insured people who leave the workforce or reduce their working hours to care for a child or an adult in need of full-time care and attention. To qualify, the carer must satisfy PRSI conditions, employment conditions, show that they are providing full-time care and attention and show that the care recipient requires full-time care and attention.
An application for Carer’s Benefit was received from the person concerned on 17 July 2024. The claim was initially disallowed. However, following a successful review on 13 March 2025, the claim was awarded from 25 July 2024 to 22 January 2025. Correspondence issued to the person concerned on 13 March 2025 advising of the review outcome and advising that further medical information was required for an extension to this claim.
On 28 March 2025, the person concerned made an application to extend the period of Carer's Benefit and submitted supporting medical information. While reviewing the claim for further eligibility, an additional information request issued to the person concerned on 31 March 2025. This information was received on 11 April 2025.
Correspondence issued to the person concerned on 15 April 2025 advising that the claim was awarded from 23 January 2025 up to 23 July 2025.
I hope this clarifies the matter for the Deputy.
