I propose to take Questions Nos. 1277, 1278, 1279 and 1280 together.

While the priority for my Department in respect of Social Housing is the construction of new build social homes, my Department continues to provide financial support to local authorities to acquire second-hand properties for social housing purposes for agreed priority categories of need, including tenants-in-situ who have been in receipt of supports under HAP or RAS and who have received a Notice of Termination. The other priority categories for second-hand acquisitions are properties that allow persons/families to exit homelessness; one-bedroom properties to deliver on Housing First targets; and specific housing required for people with a disability or other particular priority needs including older people.

The detailed administration of second-hand social housing acquisitions including those for tenants-in-situ, is delegated to the local authorities, accordingly the precise details on the number of applications granted, refused, or currently being processed are not held by my Department but may be available from individual local authorities.

The current cycle of my Department's Multi-annual Rural Water Programme (MARWP) covering the period to 2026 was launched in 2024. Almost 900 applications for funding for individual projects were received from local authorities across the country.

Mayo County Council submitted a number of applications for the scheme stated in the details including one application to fund a project under Measure A4 (Water Conservation) of the Programme.

As part of the application process, an independent Expert Panel is tasked with evaluating all applications received and reviewing each individual project, assessing the information provided in the application against the objective of the programme and make recommendations for my consideration on the suitability of funding.

Given the large number of applications received and in order to allow work to begin on projects as soon as possible, it was decided to take a phased approach to funding approval.

In November 2024, funding of €47.1m for 256 individual projects was approved and local authorities and the group water schemes concerned were advised of the details at the time. The projects being funded will improve water services for households throughout rural areas of the country.

The applications received under Measure A4 were not part of the first phase of funding announced. The applications under this measure are being considered by the Expert Panel and I expect to receive their recommendations for my consideration and decision shortly.
