Details of wild deer shot, from 2015/2016 to 2022/2023, using deer hunting licences issued by the National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) under Section 29 of the Wildlife Acts are available on the Department's Open Data site here:

https://opendata.housing.gov.ie/dataset/deer-hunting-licences-issued-by-country-2023-2024. This includes the species of deer and the County in which it was shot.

Data for the 2023/24 season is not yet finalised as the season is currently ongoing and returns are still being received from hunters. Data for the 2024/25 season will be collected as hunters renew their deer hunting licences and submit their returns in the coming months.

Wild deer may also be shot under a separate licence issued under Section 42 of the Wildlife Acts where serious damage is occurring outside of the open season or where deer need to be managed at night during the open season. These figures may be a duplication of the numbers reported under Section 29 licences.

I have no role or function in relation to the culling of wild goats.

The National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) of my Department issues certain licences in relation to wild animals that have protected status under the Wildlife Act, 1976 (as amended). Currently the wild goat is not protected under the Wildlife Acts. NPWS therefore do not issue licenses for the cull of goats nor hold any such records.
