In relation to the gender balance of grants made payable to artists by my Department in the previous 12 months, there is information in relation to the Basic Income for the Arts Scheme, as set out below.

Basic Income for the Arts (BIA) Pilot Research Scheme

This is a pilot research scheme where 2,000 artists and creative arts workers are being paid a weekly basic income. The primary objective of the scheme was to help artists deal with precarious incomes. The BIA payment is €325 a week. The time frame of payments is October 2022 to August 2025. Participants in the Basic Income for the Arts pilot are surveyed every six months. Data on gender balance from the past two surveys is as follows:

April 2024:

Gender BIA recipients
Female 47.12%
Male 50%
Other 1.37%
Prefer not to say 1.52%
October 2024:
Gender BIA recipients
Female 47.23%
Male 50.08%
Other 1.47%
Prefer not to say 1.22%
