In line with an all of Government approach to national climate policy, my Department takes an active role in working to meet Ireland’s climate targets.

In this respect, my Department has placed significant emphasis on climate considerations in its policies and programmes. For example, in 2024, every project application for the Large Scale Sport Infrastructure Fund was required to provide a Climate and Environmental statement. My Department is also working with organisers of major events, including the Ryder Cup 2027 and Euro 2028, to ensure sustainability considerations are embedded in their planning and operation. Similarly, and in line with the Infrastructure Guidelines, appraisal of business cases such as for the National Cultural Institutions Programme, require an environmental/climate assessment.

My Department’s funding allocations are determined through the annual budgetary process. It is within the context of these allocations that my Department promotes its climate agenda. It should be noted that my Department is currently engaged with DPENDPDR in relation to a review of capital NDP allocations for the coming years. My Department will continue to seek appropriate levels of funding needed to promote its policies and programmes including climate considerations within that framework.

A list of Climate and Environment Related Expenditure by each Vote can be found in Appendix 6 of the Revised Estimates for Public Services 2025.
