499. To ask the Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport his plans to ensure that future greenway and active travel investment stitch in the requirement and funding need for accessible public toilets and not have to rely on private businesses for same; and if he has made representations to the Minister for Housing, Local Government and Heritage in respect of the matter. As Minister for Transport, I have responsibility for overall policy and exchequer funding in relation to Greenways and Active Travel infrastructure. I have made no representations to the Minister for Housing, Local Government and Heritage in relation to this matter.

The planning, design, and construction of individual Greenways and Active Travel infrastructure is managed by the National Transport Authority and Transport Infrastructure Ireland in conjunction with the relevant local authority. The two agencies are responsible for the development and publication of technical standards documentation in relation to the delivery of the infrastructure – this may include reference to ancillary infrastructure such as accessible public toilets.

Noting the above position, I have referred your question, on this occasion, to TII and NTA for a direct reply. Please advise my private office if you do not receive a reply within 10 working days.
