207. To ask the Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment if he will detail whether any surveys have been carried out to estimate the amount of time taken up with administrative tasks where such time could be used more efficiently; if so, in which areas of the Department has this examination been carried out; and if he will make a statement on the matter. My Department is committed to continuously improving processes to support the delivery of its strategic goals. The Department reviews its structures, processes, staffing and skills to ensure it is best placed to deliver efficient and effective operations. While staff engagement has taken place as part of these review processes, none have specifically sought to estimate or calculate time taken on administrative tasks.

The business planning process is conducted department-wide on an annual basis and takes into account resources available, skills and outputs. In addition, the Department’s Management Board undertakes formal workforce planning which informs learning and development initiatives and organisation design, increasing resources to areas where the Department’s mandate has grown, especially across digital, climate and energy sectors.
