190. To ask the Minister for Public Expenditure and Reform if he will detail whether any surveys have been carried out to estimate the amount of time taken up with administrative tasks where such time could be used more efficiently; if so, in which areas of the Department has this examination been carried out; and if he will make a statement on the matter. I wish to advise the Deputy that no such surveys have been carried out in my Department. I would point out that the nature of the work of my Department is primarily policy focused given its role and the Department does not administer services directly to the public.
The Department is strongly committed to value for money and continuous improvement in its internal operations, in line with the overall Public Service transformation programme. In that context, there is a very strong focus on digitalisation both within the Department and working with other public service bodies that are more directly involved in service delivery. For example, my Department uses Build To Share applications such as ePQs, eSubmissions and eCorrespondence, which it has developed for use by all Departments, to support the efficient and effective administration of those important internal processes.
