281. To ask the Minister for Health to provide an update on the implementation of the Irish Sign Language Act 2017 (ISL) within her Department and its associated public bodies, including details of any ISL strategies that have been developed; and if no ISL strategy has been developed to date, the details of plans her Department has to address this gap in the near future. My Department has the facility to arrange Irish Sign Language (ISL) interpreters as the need arises, using interpreters recommended by the Irish Deaf Society. We have provided ISL interpreting for members of the public previously, for example during Covid-19 briefings, and we plan to provide ISL for public information campaigns during 2025.
As the majority of service matters are operated by the Health Service Executive, I have asked them to respond to the Deputy directly, as soon as possible.
Details for other bodies under the aegis of my Department are operational matters for the bodies concerned, and the Deputy should contact the relevant Director/ CEO/ Registrar directly.
