The Social Welfare Appeals Office is an Office of the Department of Social Protection which is responsible for determining appeals against decisions in relation to social welfare entitlements. Appeals Officers are independent in their decision making functions.

The named person was awarded Jobseekers Allowance on the 18th of February, 2025 effective from the 10th of February, 2025. Backdating of the claim to the 8th of November, 2024 was not allowed as the deciding officer did not consider that good cause had been shown. The named person submitted an appeal on the backdating element to the Social Welfare Appeals Office on the 24th of February, 2025.

I am advised by the Social Welfare Appeals Office that an Appeals Officer, having fully considered all of the available evidence, has decided to disallow the appeal of the person concerned by way of a summary decision. The person concerned has been notified of the Appeals Officer’s decision.
